The first night is not the moment to find towels across twenty sealed boxes. Reserve one or two boxes for what the household needs before normal unpacking starts, and make them visually impossible to confuse with ordinary cartons.

Define the first 12 hours

Think from arrival through the next morning: access, hygiene, sleep, food, medication, lighting, charging, and a basic clean-up. Anything that can comfortably wait belongs in another priority.

Pack personal essentials per person

Include a change of clothes, toiletries, towel, bedding, daily medication, and any must-have child or pet supplies. Keep identity documents, keys, valuables, and irreplaceable medication with a responsible person rather than in an unattended box.

Add a tiny home-opening kit

Toilet paper, hand soap, rubbish bags, paper towels, a basic tool, scissors, a cup, water, and a simple meal cover many early problems. Check whether utilities and lighting require anything specific.

Keep power and communication working

Pack phone chargers, a power strip, a labelled router kit if internet is needed immediately, and a torch. Photograph cable connections before disconnecting complicated equipment.

Mark and transport it differently

Set the priority to Open first, use a clear label such as “FIRST NIGHT,” and tell every helper where the box travels. When possible, keep it in the personal vehicle or load it last so it comes off first.
